Chief’s Message

The Bladensburg Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the Town of Bladensburg, Maryland.  We have 31 Police Officers and 13 civilian staff members, which includes a full-service emergency communications center.  Our officers are encouraged to establish community partnerships through problem-solving strategies, which includes implementing 21st Century Policing principals and best practices in an effort to keep Bladensburg a great place to live, work and visit.
The Town of Bladensburg is very diverse and we have worked hard to build trust with all members of our community including our youth and immigrant population.  We believe that this philosophy of inclusion and trust is key to building a thriving, safe community.  We want to ensure all members of our community that if you report a crime or witness a crime in the Town of Bladensburg we will not inquire about immigration or citizenship status.  To speak with a Police Officer regarding any matter please call 301-864-6080 or visit us at 4910 Tilden Road, Bladensburg, MD 20710.  We will gladly provide translation service if needed.

Monthly Police Report

Reporting a Crime or Request Police Response

The best time to report a crime is as it’s happening or immediately after it occurs.  The faster a crime is reported, enhances Police efforts to solve the crime and hold those responsible involved in committing criminal activities in the Town of Bladensburg. Community Policing/Outreach Program

The Bladensburg Police Department offers a comprehensive community policing and outreach program.   Some of the many programs include ‘Lunch with A Cop’ in which Officers join students for lunch at school.

BPD-Shop-With-A-Cop-05-200x150Shop with A Cop’ in which the Bladensburg Police Department and local merchants join efforts to assist the youth in the community.  We also attend many community meetings including condo/homeowner association meetings among others.
Periodically, we sponsor a Citizen’s Police Academy. Participants of all ages learn about police tactics, use of force, crime scene processing and more.  The class also gives our officers an opportunity to learn more about the community’s concerns regarding police tactics.

Police Explorer Program

POLICE-EXPLORERS-LOGO-200x200The Bladensburg Police Department offers a Police Explorers Program for youth and young adults ages 10 through18.   Police Explorers is a career-oriented mentoring program that introduces young men and women to the skills they would use if they choose to work in law enforcement.  For more information contact 301-927-8126 or police@bladensburgmd.gov

Obtaining a Police/Accident Report

Copies of police reports and traffic accident reports written by the Bladensburg Police Department are available in person or by mail by contacting the Bladensburg Police Department at 4910 Tilden Road, Bladensburg, Maryland 20710.  There is a $10 fee per report ($4 for Bladensburg residents).  Reports usually take 5 to 7 days before they are available for release. Once available, traffic accident reports are usually available over-the counter.  Other police reports may need additional processing and will be mailed to the requester.

Ride-A-Long Program

The Bladensburg Police Department offers a Ride-A-Long Program for those interested in law enforcement, fulfilling a class assignment, etc.  A request form must be completed and conditions/restrictions apply. Ride-Along Application

Fingerprinting Services

The Bladensburg Police Department offers Livescan (electronic) Fingerprinting Services for criminal history background checks that may be required as a condition of employment, licensing, certification, foreign adoptions or VISA/Immigration clearances.  An example of the types of applications requiring fingerprint background checks are listed below:

  • Child Care Providers
  • Adult Dependent Care
  • Security Guard Licenses
  • Special Police Commissions
  • Handgun Qualification Licenses (HQL)
  • Handgun Permits
  • Firearms Dealers
  • Security Systems Technicians
  • Immigration / VISA Applications
  • Criminal Justice Employment (Sworn & Civilian)

And many other positions which require a criminal background check prior to employment, or when a person requests an individual review of their record.

Locating an Impounded Vehicle / Obtaining a Vehicle Release Form

You can determine if your vehicle has been impounded by contacting the Bladensburg Police Department at 301-864-6080 (this information is also available on-line).  If you find that your vehicle has been impounded by the Bladensburg Police Department, the titled owner of the vehicle must obtain a release form in person at the Bladensburg Police Department, 4910 Tilden Rd, Bladensburg, MD 20710.  There is a $50 administrative fee for vehicle releases (the fee does not apply to vehicles impounded as the result of a traffic accident or recovered stolen vehicles).  Cash (exact change), money orders and certified checks are accepted.  Once the vehicle release is issued you will be directed to the impound lot.  The impound lot are independently operated and charge their own towing and storage fees.

Paying a Parking Citation

Parking citations issued by the Bladensburg Police Department or Bladensburg Code Enforcement may be paid by mail or in person at the Bladensburg Police Department, 4910 Tilden Rd., Bladensburg, MD 20710.  Fines vary by violation and are indicated on the citation.  Fines for other citations such as moving traffic violations and civil citations are not accepted at the Bladensburg Police Department.  Follow direction on these citations to make payment.
