LED Street Lighting
The Town of Bladensburg is currently Identifying locations in the Town to update or add additional energy efficient street lights. LED street lights are highly energy-efficient compared to traditional street lighting options. Other benefits of LED street lights include long lifespan, cost savings, bright and uniform lighting, reduced light pollution, and smart light capabilities. New street lighting is expected to be installed Summer 2024.

Solar Panels
Solar panels are located on the Town of Bladensburg and Bladensburg Branch Library roofs. and is a renewable energy source that utilizes the power of sunlight, which is a renewable and abundant energy source. Unlike fossil fuels, solar energy is clean and sustainable. Other benefits of solar panels include cost savings, return on investment, durability and low maintenance, increase property value, and reduction of your carbon footprint.

Green Fact: 

The Bladensburg Branch Library is Prince George's County Memorial Library System's first-ever certified LEED Silver facility and includes solar panels on the roof, permeable pavers, electric car charging stations, energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
In 2023, electric vehicle charging stations were built at the Bladensburg Town Hall, Bladensburg Community Center, and Bladensburg Branch Library. Electric cars produce zero tailpipe emissions, which helps reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. By driving an electric car, you can contribute to improving air quality and combating climate change. Other perks include cost savings, energy efficiency, quiet experience, technological advancements, and more!

Big Belly Solar Trash and Recycling Receptacles
In 2016, Big Belly Solar Trash and Recycling receptacles were installed throughout our community.  You can see these stations though out the Port Towns as well, Bladensburg, Cottage City, Colmar Manor, and Edmonston. These nifty receptacles use solar to compact trash and recycling to get more items per can and send a message via Wi-Fi when they need to be emptied.

Pet Waste Stations
The Town of Bladensburg Public Works Department Installed additional pet waste stations in the Town and have changed to biodegrable waste bags. Pet waste stations provide a designated location for pet owners to dispose of their pet's waste. By encouraging responsible pet waste disposal, these stations help prevent pet waste from contaminating water sources and spreading harmful bacteria. This promotes a cleaner and healthier environment for both humans and animals.
